This is the end of my second full day in Pamplona. I'm happy that so have progressed from jamón y queso (ham and cheese) for every meal of my first day.
Breakfast: jamón y queso tortilla
Lunch: croquetta de jamón y queso,
Dinner: bocadillo de jamón y queso (ham and cheese sandwich).
The Spanish people just adore their pork.
People here are quite friendly once you speak to them. I was lost last night trying to return to the uni residences, so I asked an old man who dutifully pointed out the way; but warned me that university was closed as if checking that I hadn't gone nuts.
Discovered the Monument to the Running of the Bulls Encierro |
Look at the guy to the left who has fallen down, and is about to get trampled by bulls. Interesting monument. |
The Bull fighting arena where the bulls all end up |
This is one of the streets where the bulls run through according to Javier. A wonderful Spanish waiter we met who did the running of the bulls a mere thirty years ago. |
We arrived just around 1.30pm, when all the shops were closing for siesta =( |
Primer Plato: Paella! |
Segundo Plato: Fish |
Postre: Strawberry Cake |
I've found a Menu del Día (Menu of the Day) today for 10€= AUD$14 You get a three course meal for it. This meant a bottle of red wine from the region: I had yummy seafood paella, then fish, a strawberry sponge cheesecake finished off with a fruity shot. Yum! That was lunch and dinner!
Dusk Shots at around 5pm |
Fellow UTS-ers |
Afterwards, I met up with a girl from high school who just so happened to be in the city at the same time. She overloaded me with tips and stats about how to live in this new city (one of the disappointing facts, was that she said the weather was beautiful and balmy lately - which has already been pushing the limit of my endurance to the cold) and took me Carrefour: a bit like an Aldi back at home, but lots of fresh and cheap fruit and veg. It was overwhelming, especially the jamón section where they had at least 20 legs of strong smelling ham curing.
